Mark Schaefer, blogger, educator, marketing maestro and author, joins the show this week to talk about his new book Social Media Explained: Untangling the World’s Most Misunderstood Business Trend.
I ask Mark about why we need yet another book on social media and we get into an interesting conversation about how key stakeholders in businesses need to understand the current digital marketing climate.
We focus on just why social media and the conversations we have online are increasingly important in an era of content shock – a phrase coined by Mark to describe the rabid proliferation of content marketing in the last years.

Not just a thinker, Marks' experience as an educator shines through as we consider how businesses can really take actionable steps to implement a strategic social media marketing strategy, find their own voice and measure the ROI.
A staunch supporter of small businesses and the scared business owner struggling to comprehend the emerging marketing climate, I get Mark to talk about the need to embrace enthusiasm and optimism when starting out with the kind of strategies and tactics discussed in the book.
Ultimately, neither Mark or I want to discourage those just beginning to get their feet wet with social media and the show closes with a resounding “You can do it if you dare!”
A Mighty Recommendation
I don't throw my weight behind books 100% unless I really mean it but Mark's book is a must read. I read it on my iPad in about 90 minutes and, even though I've ready most of the things that have come out on social media in English, French and Scandinavian, this is THE book for 2014. Newbies and experienced marketers alike will enjoy Mark's storytelling and actionable takeaways.
