Getting your content marketing seen online is getting harder. No doubt about it. I heard this week that the equivalent of everything that was ever published between the earliest publications and 2008 is published every 48 hours nowadays. Scary!
In Episode #114 I look at some of the changes that have taken place to Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), content creation and how important it is to work on the distribution of the content you are producing.

It’s Getting Noisy Out There
Mark Schaefer, who I interviewed last year on the show, wrote about the content shock in January. In every way content marketing is becoming harder. Simply because there’s so much content. And not just okay content. There’s so much awesome content.
I’ve been an really avid, dedicated reader of blogs, watched stacks of videos, listened to masses of podcasts over the years, but I simply can’t keep up anymore. Not even with the content I’ve identified as Must Read. About a year ago my RSS reader became idle except for following the latest Liverpool FC news, a dog website and one or two key bloggers. Even though I want to stay in touch with more I simply don’t have enough time in the day. And believe me, I sleep on average only 6 hours a night.
There is so much content out there that it’s getting incredibly hard to be heard or seen.
My own approach to the way I market Jontus Media online has been to reduce the amount of blogging I’ve previously done, focus more on the podcast as that’s what has had the strongest impact on client growth after word of mouth referrals, and put more emphasis on search engine optimization. I’m also developing a different set of landing pages to target different segments of our market to get potential customers into the sales funnel.
In terms of content marketing I’m also trying to factor in increased promotion of the content I do create. By increasing promotion I mean both repurposing it in the form of ebooks, videos, and audio versions of written content, and distributing it across the networks I can see are the most important for my business.
Because we get a fair bit of traffic into our sales funnel through SEO, Google+ is something I need to really start to use more because of its impact. I’m convinced Google+ is going to have more and more influence.
I talk through this, the strategies we’re exploring and what you might want to be thinking of in the show.
