Don’t put your blog on the front page of your website. Well, you can. But it’s better if you don’t.
Use the front page to make your key offering clear to your visitor.
Preferably in under a two seconds if you’re looking to improve your digital marketing.
A few years ago having a blog or stacks of text on the front page of your business website worked; indeed, many of the consultants who have a strong online presence today went that route. Now it’s much better to use the front page to quickly and effectively communicate who you are and what you’re doing.
Genesis WordPress Themes Ideal if You’re on a Tight Budget
One of the most popular WordPress theme frameworks out there is Genesis. The folks at StudioPress offer a variety of really excellent premium child themes that, for less than 100 USD, will give your business a polished presence online.
Many of the turnkey Genesis Themes are ideal for first time website owners because they make it easy to get a lot of your content in the right place and clearly organized. Even for those on a tight budget.
Genesis themes are also well coded, many are responsive so they work well on mobiles and tablets and they are, for the most part, relatively easy to adapt as long as you’re happy using the default set of pages and widgets to arrange and publish your content. If you don’t plan on changing much more than the header image and colour scheme, you will be fine.
We Recommend Genesis
The Genesis framework is incredibly powerful. This site (as of May 2014) is our own creative design; however, we’ve adapted a lot of the StudioPress Genesis child themes for customers so we know them inside out. If you’re looking to do your own marketing and need a simple, turnkey wordpress theme you could do a lot worse than Genesis.
Both Executive Pro and Enterprise Pro are easy enough to customize, but you’ll want to make sure that you invest in a custom header and some high quality images to make the theme come alive with your unique branding.
For example, you might get a couple of nice studio shots of you (and your team). And make sure you get some custom graphics for any key call to actions that you want on your site. The Genesis themes are all fully compatible with newsletter services like MailChimp and Aweber but the sign-up boxes aren’t easy to customize with graphics. So you might want to invest in those.
Site Development on a Budget
There’s no getting around the fact that it’s getting harder to stand out on the web. Premium WordPress themes have made it easier for self-starters but to be truly unique you’ll need to invest in a unique site design. The good thing about the Genesis WordPress framework though is that many designers like us already build custom sites on this platform. So even if you start out with a turnkey solution you know that you can move forward and build out a pro site based on some solid code.
